BIOGRAPHY

I was born in the Netherlands in 1975 in Leusden. In all education that I received, there was a strong focus on the development of creative skills. Initially I was strongly attracted by expressing myself by painting.

It wasn't until 1992 when I went to Canada for several years that I truly developed the taste for photography. Whilst working for a studio specializing in artistic (wedding) photography, I continued to learn the art and science of photography. What intrigued me and still does, is the interaction of the photographer and the person being photographed via a piece of technology: the camera.

In 1995 I went to the university, faculty of fine art, in Toronto where I spend most of my time building a portfolio of free art paintings, drawings and photographs. Later, from 1997 - 2001, I attended the academy of fine arts, St. Joost, in Breda further specializing in photography.

In 2001 I went to Israel to work as an assistant photographer to Micha Kirshner, a well known photographer who worked for the Maariv news paper (delivering a weekly column on a photograph & the story behind it, mostly studio work). In 2002 I went back to Canada where I worked for Hudson Taylor, a more traditional but very successful photographer, where I specialized in wedding photography and portraits. In 2003 I worked as an assistant photographer for Reuter's chief photographer Peter-Jones covering sports - especially ice hockey.

By the end of 2003 I started to work as a free lance photographer. My main goal at every assignment is to capture pieces of real life, the atmosphere of an occasion. So instead of asking people to pose and taking plenty of time to adjust camera and light, I try to go around unnoticed and take pictures without people noticing. The result is often surprisingly honest snapshots of memorable moments.
